Armando Albert Martinez
Born in Valencia, Spain, Armando Albert received his Doctorate Degree from the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, in 1957. He has been a scientist with Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC) since 1960, and was appointed Full Professor in 1971.
He has held official positions as a Spanish representative in European Commission program committees in the field of Life Science, in the Science Committee of NATO, the Working party on biotechnology with the OECD, the General Assembly of INTAS, the program to bridge Europe and the New Independent States from the former Soviet Union.
Armando Albert has chaired international scientific boards and committees, including the Advisory Committee of the United Nations University program on Biotechnology for Latin America and the Caribbean. In Spain he has also been the Vice President for Science and Technology of the National Research Council, the Scientific Coordinator for International Programs with the Inter-ministerial Commission for Science and Technology, the President of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology, and the Director of the national Programs of Research and Development in Life Sciences and Quality of Life.
He is author or co-author of numerous papers published in refereed international journals, in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and he has participated or directed the publication of several books on Biotechnology. He was also the co-author of the 1995 OECD "Review of National Science and Technology Policy of Turkey". More recently he publishes articles on Science and Technology policies, the social-economical aspects of biotechnologies, and the public perception of biotechnological applications.
